'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse' spins a fantastic movie

I've said this many times before but I'll say it again: Spider-Man is my favorite superhero. So I went into the theater with high expectations and HONEY, this movie DELIVERED.

It's not hard to see why Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse currently has 98% on Rotten Tomatoes - its the illustrated wet dream of any webhead. Although it is an origin story, the movie acknowledges all of the movies and adaptations that've come before it (even poking fun of that scene from Spider-Man 3). We (FINALLY) meet Miles Morales and follow his journey to making a name for himself. The movie mirrors his story line in the comics, with a few minor changes to create its own identity.

The magic of Into the Spider-Verse is that Miles is never overshadowed by the other Spider-people. We cry and cheer for him because his motives and emotions never feel pandering or forced. All that being said, I am going to need a Spider-Gwen (or Gwanda if you're nasty) solo film in the near future.

Aunt May also gets a shout out for being such a badass - reminding me of my mom and Nana.

The animation is both slick and exaggerated. So much so that at times it feels like you're watching a comic book that's come to life - which adds to Into the Spider-Verse's charm. And the MUSIC!? I'm blasting the soundtrack as I write this. I love that it plays to both Miles' black and Latino sides, adding to the whole experience.

IN THE END...

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is simultaneously an ode to the entire fandom and a great stand alone film - maybe the best Spider-Man movie we've ever seen (sorry Homecoming). It's great to see some of the MANY different versions of our Friendly, Neighborhood Spider and enjoy a well-written story with developed characters. From the look to the sound - Into the Spider-Verse delivers on every side. I can only hope the upcoming Spider-man: Far From Home is a quarter as brilliant as this movie has been.

9.7 sudden bouts of puberty out of 10.

P.S. - There are two after-credit scenes.
